Re-start of Activities
14 September 2021,
To: All Members of the Barnsley and District Branch.
I do hope you and your family have been able to keep safe and well during these difficult times.
I am pleased to advise you that over recent months the committee have been working hard to put together plans which will enable us to re-start our Branch activities whilst ensuring we stay Covid aware. Our activities will continue to be held at the Emmanuel church on Huddersfield Road.
Our first Branch meeting will be on Tuesday 19 October at 2pm in the upper hall. This particular meeting will be informal so as to enable us to meet up and catch up over a cup of tea and some cake. Hand sanitisers will be available on entering the building. The wearing of face masks will be entirely voluntary. Clearly, if you are planning to attend the meeting but develop Covid symptoms just beforehand or if you have been in close contact with someone who has Covid then please do not attend the meeting.
The exercise class members will meet for the first time on Monday 25 October. This meeting will also be informal as Bronia will need to individually assess everyone before they can be re-admitted to the class. Therefore, no actual exercises will take place on that day. Those attending will be asked to complete a questionnaire identifying their current level of mobility together with any history of falls and of course there will be ample opportunity to mix and mingle with colleagues over refreshments.
At the present time we believe social distancing should be maintained during the exercise class. It will be necessary to have the person with Parkinson’s seated in a circle and if their carer is present for them to stand behind the chair in order to be able to offer support and encouragement. There simply is insufficient room for the carer to be sat alongside the person with Parkinson’s.
If you wish to attend the weekly exercise class, then it is essential that you attend the meeting on the 25 October, please contact George Spencer on 01226 805109 beforehand to advise him you intend to come along on the 25th

Nordic Walking is where lightweight poles are used to help propel you as you walk,
swinging your arms and striding out.
The Barnsley branch of the South Yorkshire Nordic Walking Group was formed 2 years ago.
It has become very important to the members as a positive way of mitigating some of the effects of Parkinson’s.
The group meets at 10am on Tuesdays at a local venue.
